Good like that…
I mentioned previously that I was wanting to replace the floor in my office, the carpet is really gross. While I haven’t gotten around to it yet, I’ll probably get the materials to do in near the end of March, or early in April. It’s a priority for me, so it’ll get done, but not until I can afford it. Luckily, it’ll only be a total of about $300 to do the whole project. So, it’s not terribly expensive, but a lot when you don’t have it.
Here’s the catch.
I’d really like to have new office furniture when I get the office floor done. New furniture increases the cost of the project substantially. My desk is terribly tiny, which is great for now because I have absolutely no room. When the office floor gets replaced, I’ll have more room and this tiny little desk won’t suit. The problem is, I really like it. It’s mission style, solid wood, no pressed, and I paid $40 for it at Wal-Mart. I remember bringing it home, when we first moved here, and my friend’s husband said, “you’re not going to be able to put that together” and laughed at us as we took it out of the box. She and I looked at one another and showed him he was wrong! It’s a nice desk, it’s just small and constantly has stuff stacked up all over it. I’m normally really well organized, so it really bugs me to have clutter all over the place.
To illustrate the point, I give you the above picture. Yeah, it’s a mess, and that’s pretty tidy as I straightened up a little bit before I took the picture. The desk also has one small drawer and a keyboard tray that looks like a drawer, and is starting to get pretty banged up around the edges. It’s a good little desk, I’ll keep it, but I’d like to have something bigger, with drawers. I’d also like to have a comfortable chair, a few book cases, and a filing cabinet that won’t rust out.
Unfortunately, new office furniture will raise the cost of the project to a level I don’t know if I can afford. Also, since we’re going to be moving to CA in a few years, I don’t want to move a bunch of furniture that I just bought. We’ll be leaving the sofa and love seat and some of the heavy furniture, but I don’t want to buy something now that we’re going to have to leave in a few years. So, it’s a consideration and though I want the new furniture, I don’t think it’s going to happen.
Sometimes, it really helps to talk these things out like this. I can talk myself out of almost anything, given enough time. I don’t just do it here, I do it at Wal-Mart, too. I put something in the cart, walk around for a while and contemplate it, and more often than not, I put whatever it is back. I’m good like that.
