Considering cigars…

I’ve been thinking I might buy a box of nice cigars for Matt as part of our 10th anniversary present.  The problem is, I don’t know anything about cigars!  He enjoys them on occasion, but usually buys them one or two at a time.  I’ve been looking around and am considering Padron.  They’re a little pricy, about $105 for 26, so I want to make sure if I do get him cigars that I get good ones.  Then, of course, I’m a little worried that they wouldn’t stay fresh in the time it takes him to smoke 26 cigars.  Would he need a humidor?  If so, then that adds to the expense.

Advice?

Honey you need to talk to your daddy about that…I bought him some cigars from a company that sells the end of stock ones…He loved them, but, then he had circled them and left it on the floor in the bathroom for me to “accidentally” find..haha. I don’t remember who they were now…he might. It was like 25 really good cigars and they were only about$35. They are called Don Mateo and are made in Honduras. Daddy does have a humidor, I bought it last year for him for Christmas…from Ebay. Not knowing what I was buying haha I got one that is beautiful but really too big…dad uses it as a jewelry box on the bottom and puts the cigars in the top. Short of it is that the humidor only cost me about $49…they had smaller ones for around $20 that were really nice too.
Hey…daddy is on the phone and he says he thinks the name if the company is J & R Cigars…look for the markdowns. He is also saying that some of the deals include a humidor so try looking that up online. Daddy said he is going to look to see if he still has a catalog for them…he’s not sure.
Hope that helps! Love you! Mom

    Heya Kristyn!

    Cigars huh?
I just happen to know a thing or two about cigars! My humidor is always full! My personal favorite are the Montecristo #4′s. A really good cigar! Another favorite are the cigarritos! They are basically cigars the size of a cigarette. For those times when I don’t have long to enjoy a full size cigar.

If you are going to get a box of them, I would really recommend a humidor. They range in price from cheap to uber-expensive. In all honesty, you just need it to keep your cigars moist and fresh not break the bank. In my humidor I like to use a humidifier called – Madelaine’s Cyrstal Clear Tobacco Humidifer. It’s basically a small jar of glycerin jell. You take the cap off and it keeps the inside of your humidor at the proper humidity. When it dries out, you just fill it to the fill line with distilled water and your good to go. Online, they are about 5 bucks.

Then there is the all important snipping! Cutting your cigar is important in order to get the proper draw off of the cigar. I use the Xikar cutters. They are pretty snazzy! I’m currently using the Xikar Xi2 cutter. It’s a guillotine style cutter and does a wonderful job! Unfortunately they can be a bit pricey any where from 20 to 40 bucks. Look around at different models. I’m sure Xikar sells cheaper ones.

Oh well, best of luck on your shopping! If you have any questions, lemme know!

On a side note, cutting your cigar isn’t a necessity but rather a luxury. I routinely partake a “cigar no-no”. I just bite the end! A little messy but gets the job done! Ummm, scissors work just as well!
