Weight Issues
With the holidays coming and none of my clothes fitting me again, I’ve been thinking that maybe I should do something about my weight. I hate that I’m not able to lose weight, and the older I get, the harder it is. I’ve thought that maybe I could do a weight loss program or diet pills, but none of that stuff ever seems to work for me. What I really want is to do Weight Watchers or Nutrisystem. I’ve heard such good things about both programs, but it’s so expensive! I can’t afford $350 a month for me and to buy groceries for Matt, too. Then again, my financial aid in the spring will be enough, so maybe I should at least give it a try? It just seems like such a huge expense. I need to think about it and maybe try one more time to lose the weight on my own before I turn to something like that.
All I know is, at this point, I really need to do something about my weight. I’m tired of my clothes not fitting, I’m tired of not being able to shop anywhere but Lane Bryant. I’m just tired.

I gotta tell you, I didn’t think it would work but my wife recently started counting calories and she’s been doing that Taibo DVD thing with Billy Blanks. I must admit, I was wrong! Between keeping those calories down (under a thousand/day) and Taibo, she’s actually looking GREAT! She also says the exercise is making her feel a lot better. It’s a small price to pay to lose that weight and feel better all around! Just looked up Billy Blanks’ TaeBo Cardio over on Amazon and it’s going for a cheap $11.99! Reviews were great too!
I’ve looked into those diet plans you mentioned. Those are EXPENSIVE! The plans are relatively cheap to get you in the door but then they really sock you with those meals. Not gonna go there! I’d rather be fat! I just can’ thelp but feel those are a scam deep down.
A little exercise and skipping that cheese burger every now and then is all it takes.
Give it a shot!

You know what I need? Willpower to stay the course! A few summers ago I lost about 20 lbs and I was working out regularly and I felt amazing! I slept well, I felt good, my depression was at a minimum. I know all that good feeling and positive attitude came from eating right and working out.
The problem is, I’m almost 100% sure I have PCOS, which causes my hormones to be all out of whack — in addition to other problems. This makes my thyroid imbalanced, which makes it really, really hard for me to take weight off. It’s infuriating, to be honest, I feel a bit like my body is sabotaging me.
I could probably get treatment for the PCOS, but it’s not life threatening and I don’t have health insurance. Of course, getting treatment would also make it more likely that I would get pregnant, which I’m trying to avoid. So, in most ways, the PCOS is working to my advantage.
Okay, I ramble. The point is, it’s very difficult for me to take weight off. I need the willpower to stay the course, even when it’s hard and not coming along like I think it should. Sugar & carbs are my kryptonite.
I do yoga occasionally, I love how it makes me feel, and I have Zumba, but I hate it because I have NO rhythm. I’m going to look into Taibo!
Thanks, Shawn. Sorry for the rambling.

Uuuugh… the dreaded thyroid.
My wife had an overactive thyroid about 2 years ago. She had to go in for a treatment where she took some kind of radioactive tablet that essentially destroyed her thyroid. She now has to take medication every day to keep those hormone levels in check. It’s a struggle for her as well.
Oh, another cool workout tool is Wii Fit! We started on that but it quickly became too easy and we had to graduate to something a bit more intensive. It’s a great way to start out getting the blood pumping!
Best of luck to ya!

You may have just saved me money!! Rather than going to WW or Nutrisystem, I might buy a Wii and do Wii Fit!! My girlfriends Amanda & Karen have one and I got to try it out. It was a blast!!
Thanks, Shawn. You’re so encouraging, I really appreciate it!

LOL… it’ll only be at Christmas if YOU’re buying it, especially since it’ll be a bit of an investment, since we don’t even have a Wii yet. It’ll actually be more likely an early anniversary present (our anniversary is Feb 14th!) because I won’t get my financial aid disbursement until late January and Matt’s still looking for work.

Put in your numbers. See how many calories you’re allowed daily based on your exercising habits, and follow it. Because of my recent issues (check with Matt or Jason), I won’t be able to eat anything but rice, bread, water, and bananas for a few days with no exercise, but I’ll still be trying to stick to my caloric intake. I’m at about 1400-1900 per day, depending on how many pounds per week I want to lose.
Write down each day every single thing you eat and exactly how many servings, and how many calories per serving. Eat everything as slowly as fucking possible.
It sucks. Trust me, I’m already about to shoot myself in the head. But it gets better.
Oh, and check out the new subpage I have on my health page on my unannounced website
Got some calories and serving sizes for fruits/veggies to eat. Find a few you like.
Fuck the willpower for now. Fall/Winter is the hardest to trudge through, so do the bare minimum for damage control, then worry about getting serious.
Side note – I love soycream.

Holy crap!!
I knew I had weight issues, but that thing is just evil. It really, really should be kinder. I think it’s time (after the new year) to go back to Sparkpeople. YOU should sign up too! I’ll send you a link.
Thanks for the link, dear. I read that it takes 20 minutes for your brain to register the food you’ve eaten and whether or not you’re full. So, eating slowly is awesome advice.
I was SO, SO, SO worried about you yesterday when Matt told me you were in the hospital. I’m glad you’re okay (-ish?)
Soycream? I heard some guy stopped drinking soymilk because he was growing boobs. Hahahahahahahaha!! If it makes you grow boobs, I’m definitely staying away, mine are big enough!
I’ll check that site and you should check out Sparkpeople. There’s no reason we can’t support one another, even though you’re 1500+ miles away! BTW, I totally plan to visit you when we move to CA.
I love you, take care of yourself and keep me updated on your health stuff, I’ve been pretty worried.

I wish I had that problem! Mine are heavy and they hurt my back. Matt loves them! Ha! Men don’t get it. If he had to lug them around, he’d be more sympathetic.
I do want to use more soy products, though, I hear they’re good for women’s health because of the estrogen in them — which is why they made that dudes boobs grow.
You can be my sparkbuddy!
