I’ve been turning over in my mind the idea that it might be time to invest in a new swimsuit. I’m not exactly sure why since I don’t have a pool, nor do any of my friends. My folks do, but they live 1,500 miles away so it’s not practical for me to buy a swimsuit to swim over there (especially since we’re normally there in the winter when the pool has leaves floating in it). I just don’t know, I feel vaguely incomplete without a swimsuit. I’ve always been a big swimmer and I swim very well, even though I’ve not done much of it in the last 10 or so years.
I mean, don’t get me wrong, I have been swimming during that time. When I moved to Texas we lived in an apartment complex that had a swimming pool and I got a bit of use of it. My friend Mayren (*super secret code name*) use to come over and go swimming. We had a great time! Then, after I moved to Stephenville, my friend Melanie and her family lived in a complex of town houses that had a swimming pool and I went over there to go swimming a few times. Most recently I was swimming (wading?) earlier this year (or maybe late last?) at Amanda & Karen’s when they had their little above ground pool. So you see, I have been swimming!
Of course, I haven’t owned a swimsuit in years. The last one I owned was one I got at wal-mart and it’s sort of disappeared. I don’t have it, neither does Melanie, so who knows what’s come of it. It’s not that big a deal, however, because it wasn’t very comfortable. It was halter and whoever decided to make halter swimsuits for plus size women is going to burn in hell. I swear to you, clothing designers can be the stupidest people on the planet sometimes. Halter suits are cute… no, they’re very cute, but come on! They show my back, which is one of my better features, but kill the neck. I have a heavy chest, I can’t wear freaking halter! Most plus size women have a heavy chest and can’t wear halter, so what they’re thinking… I have no idea!
Anyway, when I went swimming (wading, really) at Amanda & Karen’s I borrowed one of Karen’s swim suits. This wouldn’t be the first time, really. One year I was staying with them for a weekend and we decided to go to Lake Waco but I didn’t have a suit. So, I borrowed one of Amanda’s and it fit really well. We’re all about the same size, so it helps. I digress, I borrowed one of Karen’s suits and it fit me really well and I felt like I looked really good. So, I’m on the hunt for one like it but haven’t come up with anything quite yet… or anything that’s not halter. Stupid halter!
What I have come up with is this… plus size swim suits are freaking expensive!! I’m going to have to scarf down a bottle a day of diet pills that really work so I can fit into a smaller size. I mean, I know they require more fabric, but come on! They’re like $50-$85!! That’s insane!! Who would pay that much for a swim suit. You know, the sad answer to that question is me. If I want to get a new swim suit, I’m going to have to pay that much. So, for now, I’m not getting one. Like I said, there’s no reason other than my neurotic desire to feel complete, since no one I know has a pool that’s accessible to me.
Until then, I’m on the hunt for a swimsuit that will fit me nicely and not break the damn bank!
